Re: The Loop (Again)

Love it. Simple, clean, attractive header photos, better than average (but not great) typography, and efficient, valid code.

Your show/hide services menu is neat, but it has two problems. First, the content is completely inaccessible without javascript. That's a mistake. Second, I think you should stop your javascript show/hide function from jumping the page about -- add "return false" to the end.

Thanks a lot. Great comments guys.

As for the menu, I do have "return false" on the end of the function.

In my browser (Firefox 2) it doesn't jump around. Unless you scroll right to the bottom of the page and close the box, then you get jumped up because the page gets smaller.

The nav is though to tell the truth. Plus we both used lightbox (Who doesn't these days though) But before you all accuse me of copying I will tell you I got my inspiration from a site on cssmania.

Re: The Loop (Again)

Nice site, but honestly I really do not like the font chosen... It's not very readable. My recommendation would be to choose a Sans Serif, Arial, Verdana or similar style font without the "curls"

Oops, my mistake! No need to change that, then. But do test it without javascript.

Re: The Loop (Again)

I don't get this prejudice against serifed fonts. They lead the eye and improve readability. They weren't designed specifically so that people would have something to hate. They are fabulous when used properly.

Serif all the way, I say.

Pete.

Re: The Loop (Again)

I agree ... I'm really starting to like the serif fonts. It adds something fresh I find ... something different than the usual Trebuchet or Verdana.

Re: The Loop (Again)

I think serif fonts are especially good with larger font sizes.

With smaller font sizes, I usually prefer sans-serif, because it's more readable. Low resolution serifs tend to smudge together.

There is a general trend for sans-serif body text on the web, because at low resolutions sans-serif text is more readable. Conversely, print body text is usually serif, because at high resolutions the serifs improve readability by making letter shapes more distinctive.

Of course, readability is not the only concern. You might choose serif because it feels classy.

In this example (the Loop), I definitely like the serif text.
