SATA Raptor vs. SATA II
I have been looking at a new server and I can not figure out if the extra money for a SATA Raptor drive is worth it.


Right now the choice is:
2 x 320G SATA II 16M Cache
or
2 x 150G SATA Raptor 10K RPM for an extra $60.00 (US) a month


They both will be mirrored Raid 1.


Has anyone had experience with Raptor drives on a web server? I will be running some demanding database driven sites and would like to know if I can expect a decent improvement in load times from the Raptor drives.

the Raptor will be faster. You will probably not feal the difference

Get the Raptors, they are so fast, it's unbelievable. If there is any intensive DB stuff going on then you'll see the difference.

Thanks, I went with the raptors. Once I move some sites to the new box I will post the improvments in load time, if anyone is interested.
