could anyone answer this question for me?
what's the deal with top level domains?
how come i can't decide to host one, maybe i want to host .alex

why can't i just do some strange hickery jickey and host it?
no one can own the internet so how can the people like verisign decide who runs what eyy?

Ok, well the thing is this, originally domain names were free, but if it was just left for everyone to own whatever name they wanted then there would be duplicate names, so systems and people need to be there to ensure that names aren't registered more than once etc, and that all costs money to run.

Off topic - BTW Alex, I know how you like recognition for your efforts, so did you know that you are now 17th in the list of Webforumz members in terms of number of posts and you only joined in July! At this rate you'll have overtaken Jacob by Christmas (no, that isn't a challenge!).
