need help, tryign to avoid using frames for this flash

I am looking for some help with a website I am working on. I have the website pretty much finished at this point. Here is a preview of the site

http://www.dmccaulley.com/swornsite/deeptest/

the background image issue has been fixed, just didnt upload the changes yet. The site works fine right now, however the band wants to add some flash to the site. I dont work with flash so they are putting me in touch with someone who does. We are going to put some minor effects on the human figure on the left side of the page. My question is this...

The background image stays put during scrolling, however if i replace that with a flash animation I dont know of a way to have it stay put during scrolling. The only way i can think of would be to use *gasp* frames. I hate frames and I would rather not use them, but I cant think of any other way.

Can anyone help me out here? Any ideas?

thanks in advance,

-Dan

put the flash in a div,
and give it the property;
position: fixed;

should work

*smacks head*

ya know... the div answer is so damn simple, yet I totally overlooked it. Thanks for the help, that WILL work, hehe.

Thanks for the nice words about the site by the way. Yeah right now the graphics quallity is pretty high, I may tone it down a bit for dial-up users =)

thanks again

i wonder if there's a script that detects the users internet speed.
would be brilliant for your site.

Re: need help, tryign to avoid using frames for this flash

well thankfully broadband is everywhere these days and most people are making the switch. There still are people out there stuck on dial-up and I dont want to make them suffer when it comes to a website's load time.

I used a script before that preloads the images on a page, it shows a progress bar and everything so the viewer doesnt think the browser locked up on them or anything. I may use that one again here, but if I lower the graphics quallity a little bit in photoshop it should be ok.

You sure can add bandwidth detection into your flash site/project. :-)

I've done it with my streaming flash player here at work, plays a different size video based on the users connection speed.

I feel the need for a tutorial coming......

Re: need help, tryign to avoid using frames for this flash

Well, AS3 is great if you're really wanted to do some heaving programmign and craziness in that regards....

But when I have deadlines looming around the corner...and there is no penality for using AS2 - only the benefit of getting it done in a 1/3 of the time. I'll stick with AS2.

But I am still learning AS3...albeit slowly.

Re: need help, tryign to avoid using frames for this flash

Yeah i found the syntax got harder :/
i don't have a clue how to do dynamic text fields anymore, since i can't give it a variable.
but seeing as i don't know an awful lot of AS2, i might as well start on AS3.
buy a book or something
