Before I really get started.. Actionscript etc

Hi,

Recently I've been attempting to learn Flash. So far I've spent serveral hours of several days on various things - CartooonSmart Quicktime tutorials, "Building a website w/ Flash CS3" book, and making largely aimless linear Flash movies with largely aborted attempts to import converted quicktime flvs (the site http://www.6billionothers.org was largely instrumental in convincing me Flash was worth the effort, I like the video in Flash a lot..).
Anyway, I've got the time and the motivation, at this point I'd really appreciated some advice before proceeding. The CartoonSmart tutorials are pretty good but I encounter problems with the apparently older version of Flash (I have CS3, on a Mac) that the tutor uses, the book is CS3 specific but limited, and both of them use Actionscript 2. It's Actionscript I want to know most about - Is it better to find tutorials relating to Actionscript 3 or will it still be of benefit to learn Actionscript 2? How different are they?
Any advice on this and any recommended learning resources would be very much appreciated.

Um, VERY different between AS2 and AS3.

I would reccomend sticking with AS3 since that is the future - and learning AS2 would just confuse you when you went to learn AS3.

I would reccomend picking up some book/videos around Object Oriented Programming Techniques as that will help you TONs with learning AS3.

On the other side, you won't find many tutorials yet for learning AS3 when you google for stuff on the web, since it is so new...check out ww.kirupa.com

He's got some AS3 stuff out to read already. But I'd say if you are just beginning go right into it with AS3.
