file download help

Not sure if this is the right forum but here goes, how do you put a file that you want people to download on a page.

Eg; Installer or help file

(Standard file you get in say My documents and put it online for people to download full file)

Re: file download help

upload it to your web server then put a link to it e.g.
HTML: Select all
<a href="LINK TO FILE ON WEBSERVER">Pressy link here :)</a>
That should work for what you want

Re: file download help

using php is a nicer way to do this
got this from the manual:
PHP: Select all

 <?php
// We'll be outputting a PDF
header('Content-type: application/pdf');

// It will be called downloaded.pdf
header('Content-Disposition: attachment; filename="downloaded.pdf"');

// The PDF source is in original.pdf
readfile('original.pdf');
?>
</span> </span> </div>

Re: file download help

To give you an idea, there are 19 folders all containing 19 photos. The folders need to be down loadable. The first a href does not work and the php script does not like it when I convert the file type to open folder. Any more suggestions, I know it can be done as I have seen and used it before

Re: file download help

you can't download a folder
you'll have to compress it (.zip or .tar etc)

Re: file download help

since they are images,
wouldn't it just be a lot easier to just put them on your page and tell them that is they want they image they can right click and save it?
Why do they have to be in different folders?

Re: file download help

if they are high res pictures,
you could make thumbnails, say only about 200px wide.
so that the user can see the image scaled down without out waiting for tge page to download 19 high res images.
good luck
