php book for beginner

I am a graphic designer and would like to step up my web knowledge. Can anyone recommend a good beginner book for php? Any other suggestions on what would be good for me to learn (even just to be able to troubleshoot or understand its features?)? Thanks!

http://www.dmcinsights.com/phpmysql2/

I bought the first edition of this book a few years ago when I first started out. It's very well written and the author and others help you out in a forum if you get stuck.

This is for php and mysql - they go hand in hand, if you just want to learn php, they also have a book about that too.

Good luck

Re: php book for beginner

I hadn't coded PHP before and I've learnt loads. It takes you through step by step each element of the code and towards the end gets a bit more complex (but by then you should have a good knowledge) and gives you example uses.

It shows you how to develop a basic CMS, a basic E-commerce site and a full user registration module.

Yeah, it explains everything really thoroughly. It goes from begginer to intermediate basically and uses practical examples. The chapters all lead towards building an e-commerce site at the end of the book.

I've got Larry Ullman's book too. It's a good one.
