Unhappy Help with photos for my web site

I am currently using FrontPage to develop my own web site and am having difficulty with importing the images I want to feature on it. I can get them onto the pages, but not necessarily in the right size or shape. I want to import an image that sits to the right hand side of the page and extends between the top and the bottom banners. How do I do this while keeping all the right proportions? I have Photoshop elements if that helps?

Thanks
Alison

In Photoshop you will want to resave the photos in the correct size. (correct width and height) . Then you will insert that photo into Frontpage.

Re: Help with photos for my web site

Thanks. Yes, I have tried resizing, but the picture comes out distorted i.e. long and narrow and indistinguishable. I tried cropping but don't seem to have much control over the cropping tool which seems to have its own ideas! Any hints for cropping? How do I know how many pixels I want? Are there standard sizes for web pages?
Cheers
A

No there isn't a standard size for a photo, it's more about what will look good on the page. The only standard is the resolution is usually 72dpi.

I don't use photoshop so I can't advice but I'm sure there is a way to reduce the pixels size without losing the ratio of width to height.

Re: Help with photos for my web site

When you are resizing you need to make sure the option for 'constrain proportions' is checked (or it might be called something different in your version, but should be obvious which it is), this will ensure that the height will adjust accordingly when you change the width (or the other way round of course).

In terms of how many pixels you want, it depends on how much space you want it to cover on the web page! If you make sure you are viewing the picture at 100% in Photoshop then you will be able to see the exact size of the image and judge it that way. Just have a bit of a play around with the sizing options, you'll soon get to grips with it
