Where to start with OsCommerce

I need to use osCommerce with my own storefront so that it's invisible. Just wondered where to start.

I've d/loaded the package and am a bit confused cos there's so much. Presumably the index.php and styles.css are the ones which form the look of the site and are thus the one's which should be replaced/tampered with?

Cheers.

No I haven't uploaded it yet because, surely, I need to make it how I want first.

Re: Where to start with OsCommerce

You have to install it first

Just put an index.html file in the main root saying coming soon. As oscommerce uses index.php the .html file will take presedence.

Then you can edit the look of the site with the index.php etc.

Sorry I don't understand.

Do you mean I put index.php in my site's root? If I were to place index.html in there it would replace the current index, which I want and is not the actual store front.

Re: Where to start with OsCommerce

What i mean is for example:
Say we have the domain named www.mystore.com
I install oscommece but if i install it when people go to www.mystore.com they will see the work in progress.

To get round this just make an index.html file and put it in the root (it wont replace the .php because different extensions) the .html file is viewed before the .php

So when ppl go to url they wont see ur store, they will see the .html file

Re: Where to start with OsCommerce

I think i got ya. You mean put an index.html inside the oscommerce folder where index.php currently resides thereby making this the default home and not replacing it?

ps - this is a large project you have on your hands. I really want to implement this and it would be great if you could get me there. So I place my faith in you as your apprentice o master Sypher. Merci!

Yep that exactly what i meant

First thing u can do is edit the style sheet. To represent the colours u want.
