Re: what is different between Web 1.0 and Web 2.0?

I haven't studied the subject, but I typed this into Google: web 1.0 versus web 2.0 and within 1 second got 7500000 sites. I don't know if there's a current discussion board on here dealing with it.

Web 2.0 is a vague, useless buzzword that you can (and should) ignore.

The internet is not an application; it does not have version numbers, and you don't upgrade it.

Some web geeks love the phrase "Web 2.0" because they think it makes them sound knowledgeable, smart, and part of a hip club of innovators. It doesn't.

Re: what is different between Web 1.0 and Web 2.0?

Web 2.0 is generally a blanket term for new technology which speeds up the web, makes it easier to use and is just damn sexy.... In addition to countless other things

ie. AJAX is a web 2.0 technology

Seriously, Web 2.0 is nothing short of a buzz word, but to push you in the right direction you need to think about latest trends.

Personal websites of the old style (web 1.0) were replaced with blogs (web 2.0)....

The old web 1 practice of screen scraping has been superceded by web services...

Web 2.0 cannot exactly be defined, because it's not a language and therefore it's hard to interpret but alas, I hope I have given you a basic understanding of what people refer to as web 2.0

If you google the phrase then lots more info will emerge.

It's just the new internet as opposed to the old one, which is a ridiculous notion. It's worth knowing about and then immediately ignoring. I find that it is to do with the community led web and the technologies that make it happen. So last.fm is very web 2.0, flickr and blogger are very web 2.0. You get the picture anyway.

Pete.

Re: what is different between Web 1.0 and Web 2.0?

Web 2 is basically the next generation of websites which allow users to modify or interact with a website using an online application interface. The term web 2 does not relate to one specific technology and I expect the term web 2 to evolve over the next few years. At present many of the well known website organisations are using web 2 to provide a different interaction with website users, a good example would be good maps. AJAX (Asynchronous JavaScript and XML) is the latest technology which provides the ability to create web 2 applications. AJAX enables a progammer to create an application which can send information and feedback from a server without having to refresh the users browser. Adobe are in the process of creating an online photoshop application using web 2 technology, I expect this application to demostrate the real power behind web 2 applications. Check out www.adobe.com for latest information.

I like that: it sums up Web 2.0 perfectly.
