Windows Or Linux Hosting?

Hi All,
We are conducting a survey and we want to find out what Web Masters/Web Developers/Designers prefer to use for their hosting. Do they prefer Windows Hosting or Linux Hosting?

What if the Web pages are designed in HTML and you find a Windows and a Linux Host offering their services for the same price (considering the competition in the hosting industry these days). Which one will you choose?

Please share your views.

Cheers
Dan

Linux would be cheaper just serving html pages.

I think the choice comes around more because of our choice of technologies. If a company chooses asp or asp.net then they'll have a windows host. If they choose php or java, they'll go for linux.

I'll still go for Linux. Since all of my sites are hosted on a Linux server. I'm also more familiar using cPanel which is only for Linux servers.

Linux because it is secure, stable and cost effective. Also it is php and mysql friendly.

Re: Windows Or Linux Hosting?

Linux as my sites are typically MySQL and PHP. However these can be served up on Windows.

As to the comment that ASP and .NET are only hosted on Windows, um, Linux does it too. Just needs to be added to the package. Some hosts (like mine) have made this available. I will not knock Microsoft, since indirectly they paid my salary for years.

Re: Windows Or Linux Hosting?

I'd have to say Linux would be my preference, as I'm all for the products that are evolving in the open source community. But I host my web design website at the moment on a windows server, so...
