x-browser... mac/pc (pls help)
Hello folks great site you've got here, this is my first question I was hoping someone would be able to help me out with. l've got a quick question that l was hoping one of the more seasoned web designers around here would be able to tell me.
Bellow is a website that l've mocked up. Now when viewed on my XP running system it looks perfect on all browsers, netscape, ie, safari, opera, FF.. etc... however when l look at the page with my mac it seems like it gets jumbled. Here are two screen caps (courtesy of browsercam.com) of what l'm talking about... mac cap: http://img358.imageshack.us/img358/5010/maccap6pn.jpg pc cap: http://img358.imageshack.us/img358/1478/pccap9iv.jpg if anyone would be able to tell me what kinds of things might cause this, l would greatly appreciate it. The URL to the page (if you'd have to review the source to know for sure) is available at: http://www.tdtcoalition.net/test/dd/index.html thanks for the help, and your time Samantha Gram |

Re: x-browser... mac/pc (pls help)
Actually, I was informed on another help forum that this is caused by having <TD> cells w/out anything in them..
for instance l had several <td height=xxx width=xxx background=xxx.gif></td> but nothing inside of the actual cell. So l just added some 1x1 transparent spacer gifs and it looks great on both Mac, and PC! Thanks for those of you that did attempt to help me with this tho!! --- However while we're on the subject, to whomever said that it was because l use height="100%" ... (?) I've never heard that this was bad practice in the past.... can you site refference please. Samantha Gram |

Re: x-browser... mac/pc (pls help)
Its because having rows inside a table with a % causes the rows to mess up when the height is expanded by data.
The result looked much like what happened to your site, that is why i perumed is was heights. Glad you fixed it tho! |

Re: x-browser... mac/pc (pls help)
Oh well thank you very much for your help! I'm sorry if l was coming off as rude, l assumed that you meant it was bad business to use %'s for height attributes. Thank you very much for the help though
-------- also: I just checked out your site via the link in your sig... great work! Alot of content, and looks very clean. Samantha Gram |
