I need a little information for a new online store i'm in the process of formulating!

I'm Intermediate when it comes to making a site but i've never done an online store before.

Well you would need a dedicated IP for the SSL certificate. And then some gateways (like LinkPoint / Payflow) require the server to have a DLL install (which most companies already have those installed).

If that is Manchester England (sorry never was any good in geography), you might look into Paypal, WorldPay and the gateway Protx to help you process payments as well.

Re: New E-Commerce Site

Google checkout and Paypal save you the money of having to have all the gateways, SSL Certificates and is a perfect way to checkout for a small to mid sized business or start up. Nothing extra is required for hosting either. You can use the paypal shopping cart too. If you need more sophistication you could use Mal's

Other carts are:

Personly I use have used World Pay in the past, or paypal sometimes. Worldpay is quite expensive though. Avoid HSBCs version of a merchant account!

Re: New E-Commerce Site

You need to register a domain name, get hosting and install a script like OsCommerce that already has all the functionalities of the e-commerce site.
OsCommerce already has support for a lot of payment processors like paypal, 2Checkout, authorize.net, etc..
You would need to sign up with one or more of these payment processors to be able to process payments.
