my web page dosen't look the same once uploaded

I've been using Dream Weaver to design a web site.

I've got the guts of the site ready and uploaded a few pages as a test!

When I view it from another computer the images(jpeg) look dull, the colour definition is not there.

Could my monitor i am using for design , playing tricks on me?

Im using a background pic on each page which is a Jpeg , when im designing it
looks great, after uploading it looks like a really bad scan.

Should I be using a Gif file for the background instead of a jpeg?

this is the site www.blue-amazon.com

any reason for images looking differn't after up loading?

Any help is appreciated

What image editing program are you using to make the image?

You can use a JPG for a background, but I would use a GIF simply because it loads faster on most occasions.

And for the record, that entrance page was confusing...

Re: my web page dosen't look the same once uploaded

im using photoshop.

i saved the image as a jpeg maximum quality.

in regards to the page looking confusing im just experimenting trying to get the look correct.

Before I uploaded it the background image looked great, color depth etc
now as you can see the background image looks like a poor scan and you can see the edges / outline of the jpeg.

In fact the whole site / design looked a lot brighter!

I was wondering if my monitor was playing tricks on me as i've checked over the net with another computer but I find it hard to beleive that my monitor would make a jpeg image so much better,

Its possible that it might look brighter on my monitor but surley not make the background image look differen't

Anyone one else had the same issue

There are my 2 cent about gif and jpeg. They look actually the same for me, but as far as I know SE like gif most. I think that your site is first of all for visitors, but you shouldn't foget about SE.

its ok, i've managed fix it!
It was my monitor, it was set to scenic mode which makes images brighter & more definition

Looks great on my computer. Maybe the other monitor was lousy?

Just so you know, images like that should be saved as a jpg. The shadow and the light etc would not show the same as a gif. This is more photographic. Photo's should be saved as jpg's and only simple images with fewer colours as gifs. A lot of people save headers with subtle gradients as gifs and they wonder why it doesn't look as smooth as before.

Pete.
