Question Portfolio Site Trouble! Duplicates of One Image

I'm new to Flash, and this is my first site: www.creativetayloring.com
I set it up by creating a slideshow window with buttons below to navigate to different swf files which display my different art forms. After I set up each seperate flash slideshow and linked the buttons to their swf files, I decided to put a graphic (the red spool and text) in the window on the "home" page...
But I -ONLY- want it on the home page... and its showing up on every other page of the site. Is there a way to keep it only on the first page???

Please help! I need a job ASAP and this is the only thing holding me back from applying!

thanks!
taylor

Honsetly I'd have to see the .fla to see what it is your doing. More than likely you setup a slide show and you have this spool and thread going all the way across the timeline, but not 100% sure.

I'm going to be honest with you, when I see a website like the one you have I want to jump off a building. That should be coded and not done in flash, but it is your decision and if you want it in flash then post that .fla and we'll help ya fix it up.

Hey Taylor,

Well first off, I like the design of your site...second off I agree with the above poster - you'd be better off building this in html. There is a really cool, easy to use Javascript program called Lightbox, that you could use to really enhance your site...

Located here: http://www.huddletogether.com/projects/lightbox/

Otherwise, if you feel you are too far into the project, you can upload your .fla file and we can take a look at it...most likley, you have the Spool on the main timeline, and what you'll want to do is create another external .swf that is loaded into the home page as well, and not just the static image there on the main timeline.

I am completely guessing here, but that might be the issue.

Cheers,

Scott

Re: Portfolio Site Trouble! Duplicates of One Image

UGHH I know you're being helpful but hearing "you shouldve done it in HTML" makes -me- want to jump off a building. Like I said, its my first flash site, and I just wanted to get better at it by trying... its taken me long enough.
I appreciate the honesty though. No way I'm starting over at this point.

Now... about this pesky image...i attached my home.fla file... take a look if you can. Thanks a lot for the help!

Re: Portfolio Site Trouble! Duplicates of One Image

Ok here you go. Just like I said above, it is because it is on the main timeline, and since you don't deviate from frame 1 it will always be there since it is on the topmost "level" of the flash file.

The first thing you need to do is CNTRL-B to break down the spool graphic and text and then create a Movie Clip (not a graphic) Symbol. Once created, in the properties panel, give the symbol an instance name of spool.

STEPS:

Then, on your ActionScripting, simply add in the following below your on(release) function to go another .swf.

Code: Select all
_root.spool._alpha = 0; //sets trans to 0% (invisible)
This will make the spool disspear...to make it re-appear after selecting a button simply reverse the code to:

Code: Select all
_root.spool._alpha = 100; //sets trans to 100%
Cheers,

Scott
