Duplicate content

Quick question. Don't beat me up too bad. I have 2 sites Site One and a portfolio site. While the sites are similar, they do differ in content and purpose. the portfolio site was meant to show people when they ask about my abilities on a freelance basis or to show dynamic applications to be included when applying for a job. The sites that are added on the pages are the same, but that's about it.

I currenly have the portfolio site set to disallow all robots in robots.txt, and didn't design with SEO in mind. But I am toying with the idea of using some SEO on it and submitting it, would I be headed for the Google (and other major search engines) doghouse.

Thanks,
Scott

Re: Duplicate content

One is .com and one is .net right?
I think duplicate content is dangerous when you have index.html and index.htm at the same domain. I think you'd be ok.
But before you submit wait for others to respond! I don't want you to be responsible for being banned!

Re: Duplicate content

Basically, the sites differ in content and purpose. In addition, they are not on the same domain... even if they were, they're not dupe content pages.... so, my advice is remove the dissallows from your robots.txt, and let the spiders find the pages themselves (They will do this once they discover they now have access)

Obviously make sure the pages are linked to from elsewhere on the web / your sites.

Have fun

Re: Duplicate content

Thanks. I knew you would come through! Apparently I was confused on duplicate content. I'll do some work on it and allow robots.

Re: Duplicate content

While designing any website, it is better to consider it from SEO point of view as the basic purpose of any webmaster is to get targeted traffic and a higher ranking in search engine result pages.
I have observed increase in traffic to my site after optimizing it following the search engine techniques. It is advisable to hire any SEO expert regarding this. There are many SEO companies who offer services that are quite helpful. Here I can recommend you to a very good SEO consultant in India that can help you. PM me.

Re: Duplicate content

Duplicate content is becoming a real headache in SEO industries now-a-days. Though copyright act is there then also duplicating of content still persists. Google also penalizing (by putting in supplement result) the sites that are having duplicate content. In the previous post too I’ve mentioned that you have to follow SEO rules while designing a website. And no duplicate content! Your web-page content should be unique. As we all know content is the king, this one is also a key on-page element of website optimization.

Can't really say a lot on the sites' content as both give Error 404.
