PHP and Forms Hate me!

I was reading the tutorial on HTMLDog.com and when I got to the section about forms, I was lost...it mentioned the use of PHP scripts so I went searching for a Form-to-Email script...I found one called Novice Form. I linked everything up between the HTML file and the PHP file, changed the email address in the PHP file and it still didn't work. I think it has something to do with my submit button though...here, I'll post my HTML code and you guys can tell me what's wrong.

Code: Select all
<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN">
<html>
  <head>
  <title>Page 2</title>
  </head>
  <body>
    <form action-"nvform.php" method="post">
    <h3>Join Our Mailing List</h3>
      <form>
        <label>E-mail address <input type="text"/></label>
        <p><label>Password<input type="password"/></label></p>
        <p>Recieve Confirmation E-mail<input type="checkbox" checked="checked"/></p>
        <input type="submit" value="Join Now!"/>
  </body>
</html>
It's only my learning site that I'm working on right now, but I wanna figure out whats wrong so that I get it right when I do a REAL website.

Thanks in advance,
Nightmare

Re: PHP and Forms Hate me!

Okay, two things. In order to test PHP you are aware you can not do that locally on your computer without the use of xampp or a similar program?

Now if it is on a web server that supports php, such as godaddy then you will have no problem.

So now that we have that cleared up, supposing you have answered yes to one of the above options I will need to see your PHP code! The code that is within the nvform.php file.

Re: PHP and Forms Hate me!

Try adding name="submit" to the submit button. If that doesn't work, post up the PHP code.

Ok no I didn't know that...and I can't answer yes to either of the 2...at the moment I don't have any hosting plans or anything like that with any companies yet, so I can't do that, and I only have a laptop with a REALLY bad processor so I don't think that running a server on it is the best idea. I guess I'll wait on the whole forms thing until I'm actually building the site that needs it (after I have a hosting plan and such).

Thanks for helping me out again (isn't this like the 3rd time in 3 days or something?),
Nightmare

Re: PHP and Forms Hate me!

You can find me on here 24/7...lol. Hosting plans are pretty cheap, so you might want to check them out. Site5.com, godaddy.com, hostgator.com.

Yeah I bookmarked all 3 of those when you posted them in my other thread. The Site5 $5.00 plan seems too good to be true, but if it is for real, it's an awesome plan. I'll probably get that one when I begin to actually build the site I'm planning. First I need to learn HTML well.

Re: PHP and Forms Hate me!

Yeah, Site5 is for real. Both Jacob and I use them for hosting.
