Tables for layout

Hi All

I have not done any real web design for many years but I always used to use tables to constrain my layout.

I read on here that this is not the thing to do.

Why is this?

Is there a better way?

By using CSS and the DIV element.

See - Resources for learning how to use CSS for layout - for why use CSS and not tables and how to do it.

Re: Tables for layout

The advantages to using XHMTL/CSS and semantic markup are numerous. Some of them are

Graceful degradation
Accessibility/Usability enhancements
Much more rapid layout/design changes
goes on and on..

Re: Tables for layout

you also have less code to gothrough as well and all you have to do is look for the element names for each div in your code and you know exactly where each section so its wonders on conde searching.
