Smile CSS Assistance?

Hey guys, sorry if this is a really obvious and basic question, but I am in the process of building a website, I am designing in photoshop but was wondering where to go after that.

What I want to do is have certain CSS features in my website, menus etc.

I was just wondering what I do, do I design everything in photoshop, slice it up, then do the css in frontapge/dreamweaver after, and is doing the css coding easy to integrate after??

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Many Thanks

Andy

Re: CSS Assistance?

I don't use frontpage or dreamweaver, can't help there. But css is simple to integrate into any webpage. I'm not saying it's simple to get the page looking like you want, but the act of accessing and applying the css code is cake. You just link to a css file in the header of the page and put class/id names inside the HTML tags you want to style.

Re: CSS Assistance?

Yes design the site in Photoshop. Slice it up and make jpg's out of things.
A really helpful tutorial I used when I was getting started with handcoding and css was here at the Adobe.com site.

There is also great info in the stickies at the top of this page.

I would suggest you not use Frontpage simply because it's going to cause you more problems. Plus it's obsolete now. Use your Dreamweaver and follow the first tutorial I posted. It will really give you a complete understanding of the basics.

Re: CSS Assistance?

In all honesty, you need to know CSS before you can properly slice any type of layout...

Re: CSS Assistance?

I am on work experience at a web design company near by. Can I post a link or not? Anyway, the 3 people I am working with all emphasise the point of starting on paper, with a pencil.

Reason being that if you start in photoshop/fireworks/etc you are restricted by limitations. However, on paper, you can draw and design whatever you want. It has no limits.

Start designing on paper, and then once happy go to photoshop, take a screenshot of a browser, and use that to work on.

Good luck!

Hey Jackfranklin, we do not allow advertising however we welcome links to sites that have tutorials, hints, tips, information regarding webdesign and development.

Starting with paper and pencil is probably great for some. I think that boils down to personal preference. No right or wrong probably.
