Dreamweaver, why do so many dislike this program?
A friend of mine may install DW on my machine, but I've been told by several people NOT to use it (even on this forum). I would love for someone to tell me a few details on what makes this program bad to use (before I install).
I was under the impression that DW is an high-end editor that does CSS, javascript, etc., etc. for those who don't understand how to hand code. I know some basic code (html and super simple CSS code), but other than that... I would need an editor. So... can you guys tell me the drawbacks to using DW? Design-wise I'm pretty limited in what I can do because I'm limited on my knowledge of CSS, javascript, etc. Thanks. |

Dreamweaver is probably the most powerful webdesign editor created, and this is one of it's biggest disadvantages. A lot of people think Dreamweaver is overkill, and in all actuality it is for the developer. If you don't know much coding Dreamweaver will make it possible for you to even click and drag Server Side Scripting.
The disadvantage to this is that people who don't know the language do use it and then their whole website goes to shambles. Without knowing the language you will never know what or where the error is in your code. Dreamweaver is not perfect by any chance, but it has some nice features. I would suggest learning the languages PRIOR to using a program such as Dreamweaver. |

I don't know who told you dreamweaver is bad, but they're wrong. It's the best tool available...

Oh okay. I'm not real savvy with the coding (html, yes, css no, script... yeah, right), so will it be dificult for me to use, do you think?

Dreamweaver certainly isn't bad, it's just like any other tool. If you know how to use it and already know the technologies you're dealing with then it's awesome - arguably the best and most versatile tool out there.
But people say it's bad in terms of a learning platform. Like JohnMitch said, Dreamweaver does a lot for you and so, as you can guess, that's pretty bad when you're learning as you never learn the proper way to do things. As long as you keep this in perspective then Dreamweaver is well worth using. |
