Doing it that way is fine .... but its by no means the easiest.

I use WAMP ... which is a little program that contains all of the bits you downloaded seperatly, and also has a nifty interface...

btw... do you have phpmyadmin?... you'll probably need that too... and its in wamp.

Now, i think the prefered utility nowadays is summint called XAMP, but ive never used that......

WAMP is not easy to install.... but, with a little patience and the help of google, you should get it up and running in no time. for wamp and xamp and see which you prefer.
