play

is there anyway to stop a flash movie from playing at the start, and to only play when a button (that is not in the flash movie... that is just plain html) is pressed? also, can the movie then be and 'reset' in the same manner? thanx

Couldn't you set a button in HTML to lead to your .swf (for the playing part) and have a button in your Flash movie that would stop the movie?

if i had the button lead to the .swf it would open it in a new window or something wouldnt it? this is what i want.. when the "power" button is clicked it either starts the movie or stops and resets it...

You can easily make a flash movie not play be default... You can change that in the publish settings, or just place a "stop()" command on the first frame.

However, sending a command from HTML, although possible, isn't cross-browser compatible and always effective.

Why not have the button in flash to begin with and when that button is clicked, the flash can load another file within itself (using loadMovie()) ?
