Unhappy design with HTML, not easy

I am trying to learn HTML/CSS. I have build somewhat complicated sites using GoLive but I want to be able to build primarily only with code. I have read and studied lots, but when I start trying to build a design by typing into a text document I don't know where to begin!

What is the best way to learn? Should I hire a tutor?

Re: design with HTML, not easy

I learnt a little while back with html 3 then I got back into design with xhtml/css and I used http://htmldog.com/ it has tutorials and stuff and is a great resource and a good starting point.

There are others too. Lots of others but htmldog is one of the best I've found.

Good luck, it seems tough at first and can be frustrating but if you give it time it starts to make sense.

Pete.

Re: design with HTML, not easy

I taught myself and really enjoyed it. Just follow simple steps.

What's your site going to look like? How do you want to lay it out? What about a color scheme? Horizontal navigation or vertical? Think about the purpose of your site and design to fulfill that purpose.

XHTML should only be used to write your content. Do everything else in CSS.

The best way to learn is to do it yourself. Once you decide on these things post back and we can help you get on the right track towards a great website.
