Photoimpact or photoshop?

I've been a long-time user of ulead photoimpact and found it powerful and at the same time easy to use. I'm wondering if Photoshop offers more options and possibilities or the other way round. By the way, for u guys, which is easier to use? Photoshop looked very hard to me when I picked up a book @ the library... i Just want to hear you people's opinions

Photoshop definately is the way to go. Ok, OK, I know that I have been trying to get off with 24 hour websites on here, but hey lets face it, why try hard to please someone with a 3 week website when you aren't getting paid for it. lol. Anyways, if you read the books on Photoshop, DONT!!! the best way to learn any program, excluding C++, Java, <u>*****EDITED EDITED EDITED*****PERL*****EDITED EDITED EDITED*****lol, is that better? </u>, etc.. is to jump in it and go for it. Photoshop is definately better than most other programs, but photoshop does have its terrible features. One of them is limited scrolling, I hate it when I can't scroll over to make the edge of the project the center, another is it's zoom, it only goes so far, so my suggestion to you is to use Photoshop for drawing, and everything, and use Fireworks, by Macromedia, for all your background changes and transparencies.

I don't usually read computer books and have jump-started into many programs like Dreamweaver and Photoimpact ( by the way, photoimpact is manufactured by ulead www.ulead.com ). Have been thinking of going into photoshop 'cause its the de facto graphics designing software. Although I've jumpstarted into easy programs like dreamweaver, photoimpact, flash.... Im ??: how you can go into programming languages like C++ without having some sort of a reference book... maybe you were just born with the talent

No, I said excluding them, meaning everything but them, lol. I wish I was born with that kind of talent!!! Well, I learned HTML in 1 day, but everyone could do that.

I must admit, the Photoshop limitations of scrolling and zoom have never presented an issue to me? The zoom is plentiful and the scrolling issue...? You can scroll over...even when you have tools in use... and the configurable settings enable a great deal of preference in that.

Photshop is the industry standard. If you see some really good graphics work, it's probably photoshop. Magazine work, adverts - especially billboards and alot of print work and new media, is all photoshop. It's the bee's knees, but it doens't look like it when you first fire up the program. After you play for a while you will learn it's power.

Books are good, but don't just learn the methods they give you. The books are there to help you understand what the features do and how to experiment, but are not there to teach you exact methods. Always play and always try new things. It may seems difficult but it's always possible and - you can always ask us. We may not be complete photoshop masters, but some of us knows some fairly advanced techniques.

Another good one, at the expense of everyone yelling at me, is PaintShopPro. Almost identical to photoshop, but some more features and a little easier to use...although Photoshop is not that difficult. Much cheaper for PaintShopPro. It will even open PSD files. Very nice. I don't use it (I use Photoshop) but know others that use it and live by it.

The last post is almost correct, except for:
"Almost identical to photoshop"

That simply isn't true. Paint Shop Pro is far less advanced in its effects, it's engine and the power that it gives you.

Hehe, but its creator prefers folks to describe it as Perl, and not PERL. Unsure why.

I disagree Sirkent. It will take almost any photoshop plugin, it can open photoshop files, it is fast... What more could you want?

It simply isn't anywhere near as powerful. It's engine is less powerful, the way it handles layers and effects also limits you and you simply aren't given anywhere near enough control. Don't get me wrong - You can accomplish some impressive things with Paint Shop Pro, but it's not quite the same beast as photoshop. Photoshop IS the industry standard and that's for a reason - It's better than anything else. The work environment is more streamlined and the tools at your disposal are far more impressive.

I know that that is your personal opinion, but I can't say that it is better than anything else. Maybe for you it is, and that is great, but Paint Shop Pro works better for some people, so to them it is better than anything else. I use Photoshop myself . This reminds me of an earlier post about macs and pc's ... HMMM......

I've heard of psp a few years ago but thought it closed down or something. forgive my ignorance; i did not even know how to do a single thing on a graphix editor back then.

if i've time i'll look into psp coz i've already started on photoshop.... thanks everyone for giving me your opinions

I prefer Photoshop which I use at work, but I have Paintshop Pro for use at home (because it's to expensive, and my pockets can't stretch that far). Value for money PSP wins. For general use, PSP is a *good* compromise. For industry, Photoshop wins.
